Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
1 Banana is published by the operator of 1bananaguy.com (“we”). You can reach us at hello@1bananaguy.com.
2. Data the app stores on your device
- Your one thing — the task text you type, and recent tasks, so we can suggest them again.
- Sessions and stats — start/end times, minutes focused, mode, outcome, streaks and achievements.
- Banana Lock settings — which apps and categories you chose to block or keep available.
- Distraction report — the name of an app and a timestamp each time a blocked app was opened during a session, so we can show “Your phone tried to distract you 17 times.”
- Preferences — durations, notifications, sounds, Banana Guy appearance, and whether you enabled the Banana Bet sandbox.
This data never leaves your device. It is not synced, backed up to our servers (we have none), or shared with us. Deleting the app deletes it.
3. Permissions and how we use them
Usage access (Android, PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS)
While a Focus or Deep session is running, the app checks which app is in the foreground so it can show the Banana shield when a blocked app opens. This check happens only during a session you started, is processed entirely on your device, and only records the app name and time of a blocked attempt for your own Distraction Report. We do not collect your app usage history, do not transmit it anywhere, and do not use it for advertising, profiling or any other purpose. You can revoke the permission at any time in Android Settings; the app then continues with timer-only (“Gentle”) sessions.
Display over other apps (Android)
Used only to show the shield screen on top of a blocked app during a session.
Screen Time / Family Controls (iOS)
On iOS, blocking uses Apple’s Screen Time framework. Apple’s design means the app never sees which apps you selected or opened; selections are opaque tokens handled by the system.
Notifications
One local notification when your session ends, and optional reminders for sessions you scheduled. No push notifications, no marketing.
Battery optimisation exemption (Android, optional)
Requested only so some phones don’t pause the session timer in the background.
4. Purchases
1 Banana Pro is sold as a subscription through Google Play or the Apple App Store. The stores process payment and give the app only a purchase status; we never see your payment details. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Google Play or Apple account.
5. Banana Bet (sandbox)
The current version’s “Banana Bet” is a sandbox: it records pretend commitments in a ledger on your device. No money is charged, held or transferred, and no financial information is collected.
6. Optional task splitting
“Split it” suggestions are generated on your device. If a future version offers an online version of this feature, the task text you choose to split would be sent to our server only when you use it, would not be stored, and this policy will be updated first.
7. Analytics, advertising and third parties
The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs and no trackers. The only third parties involved are Google Play / Apple for app distribution, permissions and purchases, under their own privacy policies.
8. Children
1 Banana is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Your rights and choices
Because your data lives only on your device, you control it directly: edit or delete it in the app, revoke permissions in system settings, or uninstall the app to remove everything. If you contact us by email we keep that correspondence only to answer you.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for material changes, note it in the app.
